DETAILED DIRECTIONS to Mountain Song Inn ~ (We strongly suggest printing these directions and avoiding use of Mapquest-type map programs as they usually detail our area incorrectly.)
IF YOU ARE
COMING TO MOUNTAIN SONG INN FROM:
WASHINGTON-DC area, RICHMOND, and other points north and east of the
intersection of Interstates 81 & 77 in VA:
First, locate the intersection of Interstate Routes 81 & 77 in
Virginia and use this highway coordinate on a VA map as your initial
guide point, indicating our approximate location.
Actually, we are near the hamlets of Willis, Indian Valley, and the town of Floyd, all in Floyd County, VA, about one half hour due east of the I-81/I-77 coordinate, "as the crow flies"; but not flying, serpentine roads are the next best choice. Once you get to our local vicinity, and to make your navigation simpler once you are off the interstate, if your vehicle has a TRIP ODOMETER, we suggest using it along with the exact mileages as they are listed below, beginning once you are on Route 8 (see second "bullet", below). Makes finding intersections and other direction points, once you're really out here in the country, much simpler.

IF YOU ARE
COMING TO MOUNTAIN SONG INN FROM:
North Carolina
Winston/Salem, Charlotte, Raleigh, and all points
generally south of Virginia:
First, locate the intersection of Interstate Routes 81 & 77 in
Virginia and use this highway coordinate on a VA map as your initial
guide point, indicating our approximate location.
Actually, we are near the town of Floyd in Floyd County, VA, about one half hour due east of the I-81/I-77 coordinate, "as the crow flies". Roads work better than wings, don't you think : , so when you get to our local vicinity, and to make your terra firma navigation simpler once you are off the interstate, if your vehicle has a TRIP ODOMETER, we suggest using it along with the exact mileages as they are listed below.
-
Get to Interstate-77 in North Carolina and head north into Virginia, traveling to the intersection of Interstate-77 and Va. Rt. 221 North (Interstate-77 Exit #14). NOTE: Rts. 221/58 are common on the way to and in Hillsville- your next destination, but concentrate on 221! Look for signs toward HILLSVILLE, and travel 221 North about 2.5 miles from Exit #14 to the center of Hillsville.
-
Once in Hillsville, travel through Hillsville, staying on 221 North . You will cross Rt. 52/Main
St. About a mile past Main St., 221 and 58 split; 58 continues more
or less straight, while 221 goes off to the left at Jeff Johnson Chevrolet. You want 221; it
may also at that point be named "Floyd Pike". At any rate, the idea
is to now head toward Floyd on Rt. 221 North . You won't go all the way to
Floyd, but you head toward it on 221.
-
From where 221/58 split at the Chevy dealer, until your next turn (onto Rt. 750/Alum Ridge Road), will be about 19 miles: Here's what to do--- when you have traveled about 19 miles on Rt. 221, from the split in Hillsville at the Chevy dealer, you need to be looking, on the right, for two, small, black & white, "Rt.750" signs, one before the other, maybe 500' feet apart, both with arrows pointing to the left. These signs alert you that you are approaching Alum Ridge Road/Rt. 750, which will imminently be coming into Rt. 221from the left only. You are to make a LEFT onto Alum Ridge Road/Rt.750. Once on Alum Ridge / Rt. 750, stay on this road ; there will be turns, and curves, and roads coming in from right & left(you're in the country, now!), but stay on Alum Ridge. :- keep smiling. . .
-
Travel Alum Ridge about 4.5 miles to where it intersects Duncans
Chapel Road. You are then to make a LEFT onto Duncans Chapel Rd.
(Note: at this intersection, on the right, the road marker sign
reads "Ridge View Rd"; i.e., Ridge View is the road to the right;
Duncans Chapel is that to the left.)
-
Travel DUNCANS CHAPEL ROAD, 3.13.2 miles, and keep eyes peeled to the RIGHT side of the road, looking for our inn's sign: "MOUNTAIN SONG INN", or for a diamond shaped, yellow “School Bus Stop Ahead” sign. You are now at the corner of Duncans Chapel and MYSTIC LANE. (Mystic Lane goes off to the right only; not an intersection.) Make a right onto Mystic Lane / Rt. 630, a gravel road.
-
MYSTIC LANEtravel to its end, just about one half mile, to sign: "Welcome- Mountain Song Inn". Our driveway veers off to the left, at a moderate incline. At the inn, please park head-on (sort of to the right, facing the view) where indicated by a parking sign.
